For the better part of the last decade movie watching has gone from a hobby of mine to a full-blown, part-time job (without the pay). It has been a fun (and at times, costly) way to pass the time when I’m not at the baseball field and it has quickly become a true passion of mine to watch and review movies. Most of you are familiar with The Logeys which I release every year that recaps the year in film (the 2019 version will drop soon) but this year I sought out to expand on that and put together my top films of the decade list.
This list has taken many different sizes and forms over the course of the past 365 days. It has ranged anywhere from top 10 list to a top 200 list. It has been sorted by how well I think a movie is made to how much I enjoyed a movie and to everything in between. I’ve spent way too much time over the last 12 months deliberating over this list to decide what I wanted it to look like but I kept finding myself circling in on the same 20–30 movies that I wanted to feature… so that’s what I’m doing.
Below is my list of the top 35 movies of the past decade (2010–2019). This is closer to my list of FAVORITE movies more so than it is my list of BEST movies but there is still some crossover (If you’d like to see my BEST list, I’d be happy to share it with you.) You will find critically acclaimed movies, you will find some critically ridiculed movies, you will find some hidden gem movies, you will find a lot of animation and CGI, and you’ll find a movie about buying a zoo. As much as I wanted this list to be a variety of things, I felt that this was the best way to show what I felt were the best, most rewatchable, most enjoyable movies from the past ten years.
